As a beginner mobile photographer, I like using Phototheca for free to manage all my travel and lifestyle pictures. It is the best free organizing software and editor in one app that I have ever used because it is great at sorting my pictures into different events and albums, which makes it easy for me to find specific moments from my trips and mobile shootings.
I particularly like the option to tag photos with keywords so I can quickly search for them later. Importing pictures from my phone and my laptop was easy and fast too, so I could start organizing my photo collection trouble-free.

Face recognition powered by AI
This tool automatically finds faces in my photos with friends and family. It's convenient because I can easily find pictures of a specific person without having to look through each photo, I took myself. It helped sort family photos and make customized albums for each family member on our latest trip to Spain.
Instant thumbnail loading
This photo editing program for PC lets me preview my holiday pictures right away without any delay. It helps me quickly look through the shots I must pick out the ones I want to edit or use for the album. The feature has saved me so much time when going through the photos from my phone. It's useful if I'm sorting some pictures to make a slideshow with my best friend, or for a specific place I've been to.
Smart albums that are handy for mobile photographers
I really like using smart albums to group my photos based on different criteria, like when I go out with my friends, the locations, or the tags I add. This helps me to organize photos and make themed albums for birthdays or my journeys without having to do all the organizing myself. It saves me time and makes managing the photos I take with my phone much easier.
Calendars and timelines
I use calendar and timeline view in Phototheca to look through all my pictures in chronological order to see when they were taken. It helps me remember past events and fun times with family, and I like seeing how my photography skills have improved.
Issues with duplicate images
Even after trying to get rid of duplicate photos by myself, duplicate images just continue to be all over my collection – I just didn’t understand how to remove them all. This not only distorts my library but also complicates the search and sharing of my best shots for my Insta posts. It is just irritating to see one photo more than once, especially when I am trying to put together a very nice album or a TikTok clip of me and my family or friends.
Inconsistent performance
Phototheca's unreliable performance is a big problem that gets in the way when I'm using the software. Sometimes it's slow, freezes up, or even crashes out of nowhere, which is irritating and messes up my work. Because of this, it's hard for me to count on Phototheca for organizing my photos or sorting through them for a particular mobile photo session.
Yes, Phototheca lets you edit and filter XMP files, which include keywords and descriptions. When you add keywords to a photo, those keywords are saved in the XMP and IPTC metadata sections of the JPEG file.
Yes, Phototheca can handle both RAW and video file formats. It supports RAW formats through the Windows Imaging Component framework, which is available on Windows 7, and later versions.
Unfortunately, Phototheca is only available for Windows and PC users. However, Mac users can consider using Apple Photos as a great alternative.
Simply open Phototheca, go to the "File" menu, select "Import to Library," navigate to the folder containing your photos, choose the folders you want to import, and click the "Import" button.
Yes, Phototheca uses facial recognition technology powered by artificial intelligence. It analyzes facial features in photos to create unique faceprints for each face. Then, it compares these faceprints to recognize if faces in different photos belong to the same person.
Yes, Phototheca provides a free version with basic features. Users can download and use this version at no cost. However, there is also a paid version available for those who need more advanced photo management features.
