I highly advise musicians or songwriters like me who prefer creating their compositions on Mac-based devices to download Audacity for Mac. This is a user-friendly but functional audio editor for Mac offering a wide array of recording and editing features suitable for beginners in the songwriting field.
It is great that the tool can be used for multiple creative purposes connected with sound production. Besides, the program supports such popular audio formats as MP3, WAV, and Ogg Vorbis.

Intuitive UI
The interface of this open source audio editor is user-friendly, so it is suitable even for a beginner like me. Its design is easy to understand, so I did not have trouble finding the necessary tools and features that I would need to record and edit my music tracks. Its set of features is not overwhelming, so I could easily focus on creative processes without getting lost in the technical parameters.
Non-destructive editing
Audacity for Mac allows to make edits and changes, so I can freely edit something in my audio tracks without affecting the original records.
This is really helpful because I can fool around with different effects, cut and paste sections, and make edits without any risk of degrading the quality of the tracks. All this lets me tinker with the compositions without the burden of having to make something perfect outright off the bat.
Several tracks processing
With Audacity for Mac downloaded and installed, you can mix and record several tracks taking advantage of an opportunity to make up elaborate multi-layered tunes. It's possible to set the level and tempo of each track separately, therefore, getting sufficient consistency and integrity of sounding. This feature is really essential to me as a songwriter because it allows building the piece of music block by block adding vocals, instruments, or any types of sounds and elements to get the right arrangement.
Compatibility with audio plugins
This audio editing software has several audio third-parties that extend the software functionality enriching it with all the necessary tools and a wide range of effects.
Adding third-party plugins to the software does not pose any problem as well, so I get more opportunities to enhance the quality of my music production workflow. This compatibility allows me to navigate through the soundscape and explore new methods of processing audio, adding a certain depth to my compositions to make them unique.
Limited support of VST plugins
Being a songwriter, I have always felt comfortable with VST plugins because they allow me to enhance sound quality and add creative effects to my tunes effortlessly. However, the fact that Audacity natively does not support VST plugins makes users frustrated. Of course, it is possible to add or download third-party plugins to my Mac computer to enhance the functionality of the software, but it makes the workflow more complicated and not so convenient.
No spectral view
Spectral view is one of these features that is lacking when working with the Mac version of Audacity software. Without it, I can’t perform noise reduction and restoration.
By failing to include this feature, Audacity does not provide the tools required for professional editing I guess.
