I used Sony Vegas Pro 16 for a long time to see if it was good enough for my work. Since I review software for FixThePhoto, I need a video editing tool that is powerful and easy to use. After testing it for a while, I can say that this version of Sony Vegas Pro is great. It has smart AI tools, a simple timeline, and amazing color-grading features.

One of the first things I noticed was the motion tracking tool. I tested it on different videos to see if it could follow moving objects smoothly, and it worked perfectly. Another thing I loved was the HDR support, which made the colors in my videos look bright and detailed, which is useful when working with high-quality footage.

I also tried the 360° video editing tools, which let me create immersive videos. They were very easy to use, and everything worked just as I expected. The improved timeline made it easier and faster to organize and edit my video clips. I also tested the Bézier masking tools, which help create detailed effects, and they exceeded my expectations.

My colleague Tetiana, who is a content creator, also loves the Sony Vegas Pro 16. She says it’s easy to use and helps her be more productive while still being creative. We both think this version of Sony Vegas Pro has the perfect mix of powerful features and a simple interface, making it a great video editing software for our projects at FixThePhoto.

Advantages

✔️Lots of effects and filters. Sony Vegas Pro 16 has many effects, transitions, and color correction tools. The Color Grading Panel helps adjust colors to match any vibe you want your project to have. I’ve used it to make music videos look more dramatic and business videos look professional.

vegas pro 16 features

✔️GPU acceleration. When I edit big projects with many layers, rendering can take a long time. But with GPU acceleration, my computer processes videos much faster, so I don’t waste time waiting, which makes my workflow more efficient.
✔️Easy editing for multiple cameras. When I edit videos with different camera angles, multicam editing lets me switch between them quickly. I’ve used this for event videos, and it makes editing much smoother, especially when I have tight deadlines.
✔️Great for editing audio. Vegas Pro 16 isn’t just for video — this video editing software for Windows also helps improve sound. I can sync audio with video, reduce background noise, and make the sound clearer overall. I used it to clean up messy audio in my projects, and it always worked well.

Disadvantages

Takes time to learn. Although the basic things are easy, if you want to do scripting, mix different videos together, or use complicated effects, it'll take a lot of time and practice. I had to watch a bunch of tutorials before I could use all the tools properly, especially when I wanted to make my videos look more professional.
Old-looking UI. This AI video editor works well, but the user interface looks a bit old compared to other editing software. The buttons, menus, and colors aren’t as modern or smooth as some newer programs. It’s not a big problem, but after using newer software, I can definitely see the difference.

What Needs Improvement in Vegas Pro 16

After testing Vegas Pro 16 for a while, I found a few things that could be improved to make it easier and more enjoyable to use:

  • Vegas Pro 16 has lots of great features, but when working on big projects or high-resolution videos, it can freeze or crash. This can be really annoying, especially if you're on a tight deadline. Making it more stable would help a lot.
  • If you're working on a video with a team, there's no easy way to edit together remotely. Adding real-time collaboration tools, maybe through the cloud, would make teamwork much easier.

I use a Windows PC, so this isn’t a huge problem for me, but it would be nice if Vegas worked on a Mac too. That way, I could edit on my MacBook when traveling.

Free Alternatives

Sony Vegas Pro lets you edit videos, but it’s not free. You can try it for a short time without paying, but after that, you need to buy it. If you don’t want to spend money, there are Vegas Pro alternatives with similar tools that you can use instead.

Both Vegas Pro and iMovie let you edit videos, cut parts, and add effects. iMovie is free and easy to use, so it’s great for beginners or people who just need simple tools for editing. However, the program only works on Mac. Vegas Pro is harder to learn but has more professional tools like color grading, 3D effects, and multi-camera editing, but you can’t use it on a Mac.

If we compare Vegas Pro vs Cyberlink PowerDirector, both programs let you edit multiple layers of video, add cool effects, and work with high-quality video. But, in my opinion, PowerDirector is easier for beginners because it has simple tools, faster video processing, and lots of templates to choose from. It even has a free version with fewer features. Vegas Pro has more advanced tools but is harder to learn.

Both Sony Vegas vs Adobe Premiere are professional video editing programs, but Vegas Pro 16 is easier to use, so beginners might like it more. On the other hand, Premiere Pro has more powerful features, which are beneficial for big projects and the software works well with other Adobe programs. The downside? Premiere Pro requires a monthly payment, but you can try it free for 7 days.

I've used both DaVinci Resolve and Vegas Pro and although both programs are great, they have different strengths. DaVinci Resolve is best for color editing and has a free version with lots of features. While Vegas Pro is easier to use and has great sound editing tools, its color grading tool isn’t as good as DaVinci’s.

When comparing Lightworks vs Vegas Pro, I've discovered that both programs are powerful, but Lightworks has a free version, making it better if you don’t want to pay. Vegas Pro is better for quick video edits, while Lightworks is more suitable for precise editing. Lightworks is harder to learn but is great for professional video work and teamwork, while Vegas Pro 16 has more built-in tools like sound editing and color grading.
