Angela Nelson is a Maui wedding and elopement photographer of the Hawaii Wedding Photojournalist Association. In her photography, Angela combines a modern and photojournalistic approach.
She draws inspiration from the stunning views of the Hawaiian Islands, its golden sunsets and sincere emotions. The main goal of photographer Angela Nelson is to make wedding shots as authentic as possible. Many couples admit that the photos taken by Angela convey the exact feelings they had at their wedding ceremony.
Angela spent her childhood in a small town outside of Ann Arbor, Michigan. She used to work as a high school English teacher. Angela was drawn by the spirit of adventure, which explains why she and her husband moved to Maui, Hawaii in 2009.
Once in Hawaii, Angela was amazed by the marvelous views of the islands and instantly captured them with her old camera. It all started as an innocent hobby and then became her career and lifework. In 2010, she had her first wedding photography shooting. Since then, Angela has captured more than 70 weddings.
Angela stands by the fact that if you have dreams of becoming a professional photographer, you shouldn’t stop once you reach a certain goal and always continue to enhance your skills.
Photographer Angela Nelson dislikes all these cut and dried wedding shots, as well as predictable engagement photography. In her opinion, each couple is different, and the role of the photographer is to convey those peculiar emotions and vibe.
Regardless of whether Angela is taking wedding portraits, wedding party pictures or first look wedding photos, she is always eager to emphasize the personality of the newlyweds.
Besides, Angela states that wedding shots should never be staged and commonplace. She believes in the authenticity of the moment and the unique love between the couple. Among the main characteristics of Angela’s style are sincerity, boldness and vibrant emotions, as well as the focus on the charm of the Hawaiian Islands. She aspires to make the couple relive that memorable wedding day again through the photos, bring back those precious moments captured on camera.
To accomplish this goal, photographer Angela Nelson follows the rules of documentary and lifestyle photography. She doesn’t like staged poses and replaces them with natural wedding photography poses. To develop photography marketing, Angela founded the company called Engaged on Maui. The company provides help with planning and documenting proposals.
Benjamin uses Canon 6D and Canon EF 50mm lens for his portrait shots. Ben agrees that it is quite challenging to take pics in poorly lit places so he uses extra equipment to get better results.
