Moho vs Adobe Animate: Which Is NOT Recommended for You?

By Ann Young 19 days ago, Software reviews

Having spent hours over animation projects of different scales, I believe that Animate with its convenient UI and the workflow of animating with a strong focus on the timeline is a better choice for everyone interested in these creative tasks. And its scripting functionality even greatly improves the flexibility of producing interactive content.

However, Moho does provide good rigging features and vector-based drawing tools, while the complexity of its timeline could be scary for amateurs.

Final Verdict:

Adobe Animate is my choice of a software for a beginner who is learning 2D animation and an expert who needs a stable software with updates. Although Moho is far superior to Animate in rigging and visual effects, Animate is in general more flexible and integrates well with other Adobe products, which makes it a better animation software for professionals.

Use Cases

moho use cases

After testing both products and pitting Adobe Animate vs Moho to see how they measure up against each other, I concluded that both options have a place in my workflow.

When I was creating animations for a video game similar to Halo, I noticed that Moho’s focus on cutting-edge 2D rigging functionality makes it perfect for designing characters that have a hand-drawn look.

Meanwhile, Animate provides a broad selection of vector drawing features and in-depth character rigging functionality. I used this software in order to design animations for an e-commerce shop of jewelry and an animated clip/YouTube shorts for their channel.

When comparing Adobe Animate and Character Animator, I understood that the second software is much better when it comes to character animations. But at the same time I find Animate much more appropriate for me because of its very high functionality, dynamism in controls, and ease of integration links with the Adobe product suite.

Easy to Learn

adobe animate interface

I think Adobe Animate is significantly simpler to learn compared to Moho. Its user-friendly UI and timeline-based animating process along with the scripting tools makes it easier to create a diverse range of animations.

Moreover, the large number of available tutorials and the supportive community behind the software ensure you’ll have no trouble finding an answer to the questions you might have when trying to create any kind of animation.

Even though Moho provides advanced rigging features and vector drawing tools, it’s a lot harder to master, particularly because of its overwhelming UI layout and almost non-existent compatibility with other software.

Drawing Tools

I put a lot of time into both applications testing on the same things, and I think Moho's functionality for vector drawing was way more convenient for animating and setting up, where you could do constant shapes and get beautiful results with brushes and effects.

Meanwhile, Animate has various modern vector drawing and bone rigging functions. I used it for character development in my expressive stories and they are so realistic, look nice.

Speaking for myself, I just prefer Animate for how friendly it is while integrating with other software from Adobe because I use several of them for work and its native motion tracking feature, which becomes part of all complicated, large-level projects.

Animation Features

Moho’s rigging functionality is user-friendly and offers great performance, allowing me to quickly rig my characters while the Smart Bones feature is impeccable when it comes to designing natural character movements.

On the other side, Animate provides a larger selection of tools for designing interactive animations for the web and mobile. I employed this animation software for anime project, setting every frame as a keyframe and adding a unique picture to every frame.

Overall, I think Moho might be a better choice for animating and rigging characters, while Adobe’s software is superior when it comes to interactivity and web-based animations. I’m happy to have both applications in my toolset.

Final Thoughts: Overall Winner

I think Animate is the clear winner in battle because of its convenient UI, timeline-focused animating tools, and scripting functionality.

I managed to use this software to create beautiful animations for an advertising video without any issues. Animate offers more in-depth character rigging and VFX, representing the superior option when it comes to creating pro-quality animations for TV series, movies, ads, and video hosting platforms.
