For many computer games, a GPU is of great importance. It does all the hard work to make games look amazing. However, for iRacing, the CPU is just as important as it does a lot of calculations to make cars look good. iRacing requires at least a quad-core processor, such as an AMD FX-6300 or Intel Core i5-4430. As for a GPU, iRacing requires 2 GB of video memory, an Nvidia GeForce GTX 660 or ATI Radeon HD 7850.
Virtual reality is another thing that can go wrong. Thanks to VR, you can enjoy a more immersive experience. Besides, because of low resolution, your computer doesn’t need to work that hard to provide consistent frame rates.
The best computer for iRacing should have 8 GB of RAM, but I recommend getting 16 GB. Of course, you can also go with 32 GB but, based on my experience, the game won’t need so much.
You should have at least 10 GB. However, iRacing developers claim that you will need 40 GB if you want to get a lot of cars and tracks. If you can, use an SSD as it delivers faster performance and you won’t be stuck at the start if your computer takes too long to load before a race.
You don’t need to get a professional wheel-and-pedal system that costs thousands of dollars. You can get a full wheel/pedal/shifter system for about $300.
The iBUYPOWER Element is the best option to consider.
If you want to buy all the extensions available in iRacing, it will cost about $1190 without promo codes. The price can vary depending on particular aspects. However, this is not what you should pay attention to. You have to pay for the tracks where your favorite series runs.
It’s worth it if you invest time in it. If you purchase many extensions and don’t race often, then no. It depends on how frequently you’re going to use it.
iRacing was created for PCs, and the majority of modern computers are powerful enough to run it. However, some laptops can handle it too. The main requirement is Windows 7, 64-bit, or newer.
