VeraCrypt is an open source free software that is free to download, which is free for use on any computer that has a working Internet connection. It was released in January 2020 by IDRISK and is loosely based on TrueCrypt being an already existing fork off of the original project. It is very much like TrueCrypt in that both are very easy to install but it is not as user friendly as TrueCrypt. This software is designed to work best with Windows computers but can also be used on Linux and Mac.
VeraCrypt software works by creating a folder called VeraCrypt inside your "Data" folder and stores all of the different files inside. The software can then create a series of folders under different file types. These are named "Filesystem", "Movable Data", "Floppy Disk"Journal". When you open the VeraCrypt program you will find that the folder that contains the files and folders you have installed is opened. There are various options that are available to you when opening the VeraCrypt program including making a back up of all of your important data, backing up your data on another computer and even backing up your data to external media such as a CD or DVD.
