The best high resolution scanner on the market.
This will help you save valuable moments, easily share photos on social networks, send them to friends or quickly find even 10-year-old shots.
In this article, I will tell you more about the scanners that deliver powerful performance and meet users’ varied needs thanks to the recent technological advancements.
Optical scan resolution: 600 dpi | Scanning speed: 30ppm | Interface: USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi | Feeder capacity: 50

Brother ADS-2800W is a new high resolution scanner that has many features from the previous ADS-2700W version. One of the main advantages is that it supports both one-sided and two-sided scanning. Moreover, you can scan any files both in color and black&white. The ADS-2800W features a document feeder for up to 50 sheets. Users can easily resize pages based on their needs. You can scan single and multi-page documents and use a duplex scanning mode. It’s possible to choose one of the available page sizes or use custom settings.
Thanks to the integrated touch screen, the ADS-2800W is quite simple to use. It features 48 programmable one-touch shortcuts for scanning. Thanks to this option, the scanner will help you create digital copies of different files. Many users claim the Brother ADS-2800W is one of the best scanners for Mac no matter whether you are interested in scanning documents, credit cards, photos, or other items.
Optical scan resolution: 2,400dpi | Scanning speed: 10 Seconds | Interface: USB | Feeder capacity: -
⊕ High-end software suite
⊕ Intuitive UI
⊕ High-quality photo-scanning
⊖ Poor serif fonts scanning

When choosing between a budget device and a more expensive one with additional features, I prefer to choose a premium scanner with more functionality, especially when the price difference is only $20. The LiDE 400 is a Hi Res scanner with a compact and elegant design. Unlike the LiDE 300, this model offers a twice higher resolution and the additional “Done” button located on the front panel. It makes scanning to a multi-page PDF easier.
There are no more significant differences between the LiDE 400 and LiDE 300. If you are on a limited budget, you can spend $20 on other needs. Either way, any CanoScans device will not disappoint you and offer excellent performance for low-volume scanning.
Optical scan resolution: 600dpi | Scanning speed: 20ppm | Interface: USB | Feeder capacity: 50
⊕ Cheap
⊕ Flatbed, a 50-sheet ADF
⊕ Impressive OCR
⊕ Full software suite
⊖ Slow-scanning to searchable PDF
The high resolution flatbed scanner Pro 2500 is an excellent solution for small offices, as it does not take up much space. The device is well-suited for working with books, multi-page documents, cards and photos. Plus, the HP ScanJet Pro 2500 comes with powerful incorporated software.
One of its instantly noticeable drawbacks is its poor durability. Unlike the HP 3500, this budget model does not have a USB 3.0 connection option and offers slower performance. If you need a scanner to create searchable PDFs, I recommend considering the Canon imageFormula DR-F120 and Canon imageFormula DR-2020U, which offer better results. The Pro 2500 is more suitable for general-purpose scanning.
Optical scan resolution: 300dpi | Scanning speed: 35ppm | Interface: USB | Feeder capacity: 50
⊕ Scans images, creates searchable PDFs
⊕ Affordable
⊖ Poor OCR performance
⊖ Poor-quality document feeder
Epson WorkForce ES-400 is an excellent high quality image scanner suitable for personal and office use. This duplex scanner offers fast performance that is not inferior to that one delivered by more expensive models, like the Canon DR-C225.
It can beat its counterparts when it comes to scanning to PDF files. However, between the ES-400 and DR-C225, I will choose the latter as it recognizes text better and is perfect for scanning to DOCX format. For those who are accustomed to working with PDF format, the ES-400 remains the best choice.
Optical scan resolution: 600dpi | Scanning speed: 35ppm | Interface: USB, Wi-Fi | Feeder capacity: 50

⊖ Not for scanning low-quality documents
⊖ No software
Brother ADS–2700W is a high resolution picture scanner that supports both color and black-and-white scanning. The device is suitable for small spaces, due to compact size. The Brother ADS - 2700W offers fast duplex performance. With its integrated wireless connectivity option, the scanner is compatible with various devices besides a computer. The Brother ADS-2700W also supports USB 2.0.
You will not face any difficulties when scanning your documents thanks to the color touch screen. The display provides secure access for storing important documents. The ADS - 2700W is compatible with Linux, Mac, Windows and TWAIN drivers.
Optical scan resolution: 4800dpi | Scanning speed: 6ppm | Interface: USB | Feeder capacity: -
⊕ High-quality scanning
⊕ The scanning process is fully automated
⊕ Supports searchable PDF format
⊖ Doesn’t allow creating editable text files
⊖ Lacks of applications
Epson Perfection V19 is a high resolution flatbed scanner that is perfect for scanning images. However, if you need to create an editable PDF, the V19 will not cope with this task as it doesn’t have a program for it. This is the main reason I was unable to run the Optical Character Recognition (OCR) test, as it directly depends on the text format support.

Before you start looking for the best high resolution scanner, I recommend taking a short test to understand your needs and goals. This will help you make the right choice:
Define a goal. What exactly are you planning to scan? If you are looking for a scanner to work with 4-by-6-inch, 8-by-10-inch or larger photos and negatives, then I recommend considering a high resolution flatbed scanner with a film adapter. However, if your goal is just transparencies, then you need to purchase a compact device for scanning films.
What scanner resolution do you need? This parameter is usually specified in dots per inch (DPI). If you are looking for a device for everyday use, 300 DPI is fine, but to reach higher quality, I recommend scanners with 1200 DPI. If you need to enlarge your photos, 3200 DPI will suffice, unless you are interested in large format printing. For online publications, a lower resolution of 150 DPI is enough.
Desired performance speed. When you need to scan large volumes of documents, speed is critical. You can find the speed parameters of different models on the manufacturers’ websites. I recommend looking through them to choose the most suitable option based on your needs.
The desired price. The modern market offers different scanners at various price ranges, from $100 to $1000. As a rule, the more functionality a device offers, the higher its cost is.
Multiple-purpose device? You need to define if you’re looking for a high resolution photo scanner or the one that copes with both photos and documents. If you opt for versatility, you need to consider the appropriate device.
Suitable size. Depending on what you’re planning to work with, you need to choose a suitable scanner size. While for big documents and photos I recommend using large flatbed devices, you’ll need a specifically designed scanner for transparencies and negatives.
Check yourself by making a list with the top scanners that have the desired functionality. You can hardly test a wide range of scanners in a store, so it’s better to narrow down the search.
Make an order once you find out the seller’s return policy. I recommend testing a device as soon as it’s delivered to understand if it suits your needs. You can return the scanner if you’re not satisfied with its performance.
Epson Perfection v600 comes with a resolution of 6400 x 9600 DPI, where the first number indicates the maximum “optical” resolution for scanning.
You will definitely notice the difference between a photo of an image and its scanned version. While the shot option is more convenient, scanning offers higher quality, making your images look clear and accurate.
In my opinion, the most appropriate resolution is 3000 x 4800 DPI. Although scanning at a higher resolution than 2400 DPI takes longer, you get a better digital image that can be used for larger reprints.
Hewlett-Packard is a well-known manufacturer of scanners and printers. According to the company, photos should be scanned using devices with a resolution of at least 300 DPI. It allows you to create high-quality digital copies.
Yes. Most modern high-resolution scanners come with drivers and software that support major operating systems such as Windows, macOS, and Linux. Users can find the necessary drivers and software on the manufacturer's website or through the operating system's built-in driver database.
